ECCLESIASTICAL PROVINCE OF CANADA The Ecclesiastical Province of Canada was founded in 1860 and is one of four ecclesiastical provinces in the Anglican Church of Canada. Despite its name, the province covers only the former territory of Lower Canada (ie.  

Mothers' Union The Mothers' Union (often abbreviated MU) is a worldwide movement of Anglican women, whose aim is to strengthen and preserve marriage and family life through Christianity. The MU calculates its membership to be about 3.6 million in 78 countries.  elects new president

Mothers' Union in Canada elected a new president, Annette Graydon, of the Diocese of Niagara, at its international conference in Halifax last June. About 260 delegates and guests came from Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  for the five-day gathering. Worldwide President Lady Christine Lames, of the U.K., told the group that Mothers' Union members have made a difference in their communities.

Bishop Marsh plans to retire

Bishop Edward Marsh, of Central Newfoundland, has announced he will retire at the end of the year. Born in 1935, he was ordained or·dain

Niagara's campaign may top goal

The Diocese of Niagara reports that its Survive and Thrive campaign is expected to top its $8-million goal. "We have kept up good momentum over the summer and pledges are still coming in," said Rev. David Ponting, diocesan director of stewardship and financial development. The campaign will support continuing education continuing education: see adult education.

Niagara Anglican

Howe elected coadjutor bishop

Rev. Bruce Howe, clean of St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Ont., in the Diocese of Huron, was elected coadjutor bishop, which means he will succeed to the office of diocesan bishop upon the retirement of Archbishop Percy O'Driscoll in October.

Wall collapses

Construction on a $1.8-million office building for the diocese in London had an inadvertent effect -- the collapse of a wall section at adjoining St. Paul's Cathedral. No one was injured in the July 4 accident. However, it knocked the cathedral's organ out of service, since the wall section contained the organ's pipes. Insurance adjusters and structural engineers were brought in to assess the damage and determine the cause of the collapse.

ECCLESIASTICAL PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA AND YUKON

Vote rejected

The Diocese of New Westminster's synod has rejected a motion calling for a special, diocese-wide vote on whether clergy may bless same-sex relationships. The motion had called for a vote to be held in all parishes next April, with sealed ballots brought to synod. Several speakers noted that synod representatives traditionally gather under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to discern the will of God, not simply carry votes.

Kootenay celebrates

The Diocese of Kootenay is marking its 100th anniversary and parishes are celebrating in many ways. The diocese also entered a five-year companion relationship with the Anglican Diocese of Northern Mexico.

Representatives to the diocesan synod in May heard Kootenay is running its first deficit ($12,000) since 1089.
