James Beard (May 5, 1903–January 21, 1985) was an American chef and food writer. James Beard is recognized by many as the father of American gastronomy. Award in 1998 as a best chef in the Northwest, will direct the preparation of the four-course meal to be served by culinary and hospitality students Sept. 24 at the Lane Community College Foundation's first Harvest Dinner and Auction. The fund-raiser will begin at 6 p.m. with a silent auction, wine and hors d'oeuvres in the Center for Meeting and Learning, in the west wing of Building 19. The dinner and live auction is to start at 7:15 p.m. The meal will start with a first course of wild mushroom toast with roasted garlic, caramelized onions and goat cheese, followed by a potato and clam soup.
