James Beard (May 5, 1903–January 21, 1985) was an American chef and food writer. James Beard is recognized by many as the father of American gastronomy.
 Award in 1998 as a best chef in the Northwest, will direct the preparation of the four-course meal to be served by culinary and hospitality students Sept. 24 at the Lane Community College Foundation's first Harvest Dinner and Auction.

The fund-raiser will begin at 6 p.m. with a silent auction, wine and hors d'oeuvres in the Center for Meeting and Learning, in the west wing of Building 19. The dinner and live auction is to start at 7:15 p.m.

The meal will start with a first course of wild mushroom toast with roasted garlic, caramelized onions and goat cheese, followed by a potato and clam soup. The entree is roasted pork loin loin (loin) the part of the back between the thorax and pelvis.

SweetWaters offers

Friday seafood buffet

SweetWaters restaurant at the Valley River Inn now offers a seafood lunch buffet every Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The buffet includes two hot seafood entrees, chilled seafood, cold salads, non-alcoholic beverages and more. The cost is $12.75 a person.
