Dimension X's Liquid Reality and Liquid Motion to be Showcased at Microsoft's World Wide Live Activating the Internet Event; With ActiveX's Technologies Dimension X Java Products Deliver Stunning Content to the Web.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1996--Dimension X, an Internet technology and Java tool developer, will have products Liquid Reality(TM) and Liquid Motion(TM) featured today at Microsoft Corp.'s World Wide Live event.

World Wide Live Activating the Internet, is a special event for web site creators, designers and managers who want to learn how to use the most advanced technology to create compelling content on the Web with ease. A central part of this advanced technology is ActiveX(TM).

ActiveX, technology from Microsoft for enabling interactivity on the World Wide Web, will give Java applications a wide range of multimedia functionality and will greatly accelerate the performance of Java applications such as Liquid Reality, Dimension X's Virtual Reality Modeling Language (virtual reality, language) Virtual Reality Modeling Language - (VRML) A draft specification for the design and implementation of a platform-independent language for virtual reality scene description.

VRML 1.0 was released on 1995-05-26.

"Because we view Dimension X as a premier solution provider for creating 2D and 3D VRML 2.0 technology in Java, World Wide Live was an obvious place to exhibit its technology," said Brad Chase Brad Chase is a fictional lawyer, portrayed by Mark Valley, on the ABC television series Boston Legal. For example, in a multiprocessing environment, where several computers share the workload, a tightly-coupled system would have to be shut down in order to add or replace a machine.  of the Liquid Reality architecture with Microsoft(R)'s ActiveX technologies to deliver a compelling end-user experience."

"ActiveX is the catalyst that will quickly bring more compelling content to the Internet and to the mainstream PC market," said Karl Jacob, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Dimension X's products will be distributed to the estimated 10,000 participants at this event.

Liquid Reality and ActiveX

Liquid Reality provides all the tools necessary to create 3D interactive worlds that are both graphically crisp and rich with depth. Not only is Liquid Reality the first platform independent implementation of VRML 2.0, but also the only VRML 2.0 toolkit coded entirely in Java. Because the Liquid Reality platform is an open API Open API (often referred to as OpenAPI) is a word used to describe sets of technologies that enable websites to interact with each other by using SOAP, Javascript any other web technology.  it is extensible, allowing developers to provide additional functionality or integrate it into their existing Intranet solutions.

(R) platform, Liquid Reality is tightly integrated with the Microsoft ActiveX and DirectX(TM) technologies -- providing seamless browser integration, and high-performance rendering and audio services, respectively. For use with Microsoft Internet Explorer See Internet Explorer.  3.0, Liquid Reality is implemented as an ActiveX control A software module based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM) architecture. It enables a program to add functionality by calling ready-made components that blend in and appear as normal parts of the program.  that takes advantage of the built-in Java support.

Furthermore, Liquid Reality utilizes Microsoft Direct3D(TM) real-time 3-D graphics API to provide its 3-D rendering services, enabling transparent access to hardware acceleration In computing, hardware acceleration is the use of hardware to perform some function faster than is possible in software running on the normal (general purpose) CPU. Examples of hardware acceleration include blitting acceleration functionality in graphics processing units (GPUs) and  on the broad base of supported 3-D graphics hardware emerging on the market.

Because of user base and functionality, the selection of the DirectX platform to accelerate performance of Liquid Reality was the obvious choice. As an integral part of DirectX, the Direct3D technology provides developers with access to hardware acceleration, thereby freeing the Liquid Reality rendering engine from device specific hardware dependencies. This allows Liquid Reality to utilize the speed of the hardware, enabling end users to participate in expansive, fast 3D universes. Together, Direct3D and Dimension X's Liquid Reality, will deliver the next generation of real-time, interactive 3D technology for mainstream PC users.

Liquid Motion and ActiveX

Liquid Motion is a 2D authoring tool for Web designers, artists and others who wish to create interactive multimedia Internet content, without Java programming skills. This product enables users to create exciting animated applets including sound and interactivity using a simple drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another.  graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
. The Liquid Motion open API establishes Liquid Motion as a platform and allows third-party developers to rapidly extend the functionality of the product.

ActiveX technologies will make Java applets created with Liquid Motion burst onto the users screen with minimum download time. Because the Liquid Motion player classes are implemented as an ActiveX control, they are automatically installed on the user's machine the first time they encounter a Liquid Motion generated applet. This means the next time a user activates a web page with a Liquid Motion applet on it, they will experience a ten fold decrease in download time, which will only total a few seconds.
