DigitalTech Displays Launches line of illumia High Resolution LCD Graphic Controllers.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers MONTEREY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2003 DigitalTech Displays announces the release of a family of LCD controller products. These controllers are designed to provide the widest support for LCD manufacturers, while providing cost effective solutions for the emerging video, multimedia, and visual marketplaces. illumia XGA (EXtended Graphics Array) A screen resolution of 1,024x768 pixels. The term stems from IBM's XGA display standard introduced in 1990, which extended VGA to 132-column text and interlaced 1,024x768x256 resolution. XGA-2 later added non-interlaced 1,024x768x64K. -- Low cost, auto-scaling controller supporting resolutions up to 1024x768 illumia SXGA (Super XGA) A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. SXGA is commonly used on standard monitors, but provides a 1.25:1 aspect ratio, compared to the more common 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. SXGA+ has a 1400x1050 resolution, which is an exact 1.33:1 ratio. See PC display modes. -- Midrange auto-scaling controller supporting resolutions up to 1280x1024 illumia XGA The illumia XGA is a low cost, multimedia controller, designed to drive small and mid-sized LCD panels. illumia XGA uses a very small footprint: -- Autoscaling QVGA (320x240), VGA (640x480), SVGA (800x600) & XGA (1024x768) VESA modes. -- Compatible with panel signals of TTL, LVDS, and TMDS -- Jumper selectable panel support for various LCD manufacturers -- Video inputs of NTSC/PAL, SECAM, S-video, Component video -- Analog RGB supporting up to 16.7 Million colors -- Amplified Audio designed on board -- Full On-Screen Display controls for image adjustment, brightness, color, etc. -- Single pc cost of $229, including OSD, inverter, power supply and cables. illumia SXGA The illumia SXGA is designed to drive LCD displays greater than 15-in, with superior multimedia options and enhanced display quality: -- Autoscaling QVGA (Quarter VGA) A screen resolution of 320x240 pixels, which is used on handheld devices. Although 320x240 seems half the 640x480 VGA resolution, the "quarter" comes from the total number of pixels, which is one fourth the number (320 times 240=76800; 640 times 480=307200). (320x240), VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions. (640x480), SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. See PC display modes. (800x600) & XGA (1024x768) VESA modes. -- Compatible with panel signals of TTL, LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) A transmission method for sending digital information. LVDS sends data over data high and data low lines rather than data and ground. , and TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) A transmission method for sending digital information from a personal computer, set-top box or other video source to a flat panel display. Developed by Silicon Image, Sunnyvale, CA (www.siliconimage. -- Jumper selectable panel support for various LCD manufacturers -- Video inputs of NTSC/PAL, SECAM (SEquential Couleur Avec Memoire, Sequential Color with Memory) A color TV standard from France that was officially introduced in 1967. Although development began in 1956, it took time to convert from the earlier French 819-line system. , S-video, Component video, DVI -- Analog RGB supporting up to 16.7 Million colors -- Full On-Screen Display controls for image adjustment, brightness, color, etc. -- Optional Amplified Audio add-on board (Supports 5watts @ 8ohm) -- Single pc cost of $399, including OSD, inverter, power supply and cables "Our family of illumia controllers now support a wide variety of LCD panels, from 5.5-inch to 54-inches," said Tyler Tran, Chief Technology Officer for DigitalTech Displays. "Each controller offers a unique cost/feature set, which allows the integrator to tailor their display for various applications." Tran added. "The converging markets using video, HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates , medical, and information displays using much larger LCD panels is now supported with illumia controllers".
