SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1997--Digital Video Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:DVID) announced that a new position at DVS reporting to President and Chief Operating Officer Thomas R. Parkinson has been established.

Katina A. Matis has been hired by Digital Video Systems, Inc., in this new position effective May 1, 1997, and holds the title Manager of Corporate Communications and Administration, and will be located at DVS's corporate headquarters in Silicon Valley, California, at 2710 Walsh Avenue, Santa Clara, CA 95051.

Digital Video Systems, Inc., develops, manufactures and markets digital video compression and decompression hardware and software and has locations in the U.S., in Hong Kong, and in Taiwan.

Digital Video Systems's growing U.S. and Asian markets require a corporate communications contact to address the information needs of DVS's stockholders on a timely basis.

Ms. Matis has an extensive background spanning 32 years as a business professional and 25 years as a professional athlete. Her educational background includes a bachelor's degree from U.C. Berkeley and a master's degree in business administration from St. Mary's College in the Executive MBA program.

Her professional business career began in the 1960's at IBM in the Systems Engineering and Technical Development Data Processing Divisional Headquarters in White Plains, New York. After relocating to California in the 1970's, she joined the law offices of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati (formerly Wilson, Mosher & Martin), located in Palo Alto, where she set up and developed the world's first word processing center. Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich, et al., has earned the worldwide prestige of being recognized as Silicon Valley's most highly-acclaimed law firm specializing in high technology business law.

In the 1970's Ms. Matis became a member of McKinsey & Company, Inc.'s international management consulting practice in the San Francisco, California, satellite office, which provided consulting services to the emerging high technology Bay Area companies which we now know as Silicon Valley.

Ms. Matis has been the President and CEO of Matis Consulting Services, a management consultant in the U.S. and Europe. Her firm has been providing strategic planning services and conducting special projects for the public and private sectors since 1980.

Additionally, since 1982, she has been an adjunct marketing professor at leading universities in California, including the University of California, Berkeley; and Santa Clara University's MBA Program, where her responsibilities include designing, developing, and teaching strategic marketing courses to visiting foreign national business professionals and to Silicon Valley business managers who develop corporate strategic marketing plans for their companies as a requirement of her courses.

Ms. Matis began the professional athletic segment of her career in 1972. She is a USPTA certified tennis professional and has coached an impressive list of nationally ranked junior tournament players and NCAA Division I college players; she was head coach of the number one California men's community college team, and founded several of the U.S.'s first women's collegiate tennis teams in California.
