The Company had previously indicated a slowdown in orders from Asia-Pacific which would likely impact results for the first half of Fiscal 1999.

"Economic pressures in Asia-Pacific have slowed network buildouts as anticipated in that region," commented Charles D. Kissner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Microwave Corporation. "Because of quarterly variations in worldwide bookings, it was more difficult to overcome shortfalls in Asia-Pacific during Q4. In addition, some fourth quarter Asia deliveries were deferred by customers. As a result of continued improvements in manufacturing processes, the Company was largely able to rapidly book and ship replacement business within the quarter. Product margins were lower than anticipated due to increased costs and lower prices associated with the specific orders processed. While our top-line growth was significant, these unanticipated lower margins and other costs associated with expanding production capacity and ramping up further our engineering investments negatively impacted bottom line results. In order to benefit longer term results, the Company decided to accelerate strategic engineering projects, including Altium development, completion of an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  network management interface, and other engineering projects for key customers."

about the impact that the introduction of our new high capacity Altium radio platform and the merger with MAS Technology will have on results in the latter part of Fiscal 1999 and in the longer-term, we are disappointed with the anticipated quarterly results," continued Kissner. "As a result of current market conditions and near-term uncertainty in other parts of the world, we are taking a number of precautionary pre·cau·tion·ar·y   also pre·cau·tion·al

actions, including reducing expenses and product cost levels, accelerating the integration with MAS Technology to achieve faster merger benefits, accelerating further some ongoing distribution initiatives, and continuing to move forward quickly with the Altium product line rollout. In addition, we are closely monitoring the situation in Asia-Pacific where we believe we are positioned well for future business."

Final financial results are expected to be released on April 22 and are subject to completion of the year-end audit.
