Digital Lightwave Introduces NIC Plus Embedded-Platform -EP- and Autonomous Messaging Functionality.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers CLEARWATER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 2004 Digital Lightwave(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:DIGL DIGL Device Independent Graphics Layer ), a leading provider of optical networking technology and test instruments, today announced the NIC (1) (Network Interface Card) See network adapter. See also InterNIC. (2) (New Internet Computer) An earlier Linux-based computer from The New Internet Computer Company (NICC), Palo Alto, CA. Plus Embedded-Platform (EP) as an additional form factor to the company's successful Network Information Computer(R) (NIC(R)) product line. The rack mount capability of the NIC Plus EP is designed for environments where monitoring and testing occur over extended periods of time, requiring a permanent equipment installation. Expanding on the robust feature set of the NIC, autonomous messaging adds sought after event notification throughout the respective line of test instruments. "The NIC Plus EP is our continued evolution of the flexible NIC platform. We've leveraged the existing NIC design with appropriate hardware and software modifications to establish a new market fit for our testing equipment," said Jim Green, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of Digital Lightwave. "Our product introduction provides an impressive range of capabilities in a compact, rack mounted environment, offering the same features of our NIC Plus. Customer response has been quite positive." The NIC Plus EP is a 4U rack-mount test instrument designed for long-term monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and remote testing applications. Operation is via the standard Graphical User Interface graphical user interface (GUI) Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to common to all NIC products making for a seamless addition of the NIC Plus EP into existing customer networks. The instrument may also be controlled by Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (standard) Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments - (SCPI) A standard complementing IEEE 488, developed by Hewlett-Packard and promoted by the SCPI Consortium. (SCPI SCPI - Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments ). In support of long-term tests and monitoring the NIC Plus EP may be configured to automatically send messages, using the autonomous messaging feature, when predefined criteria are detected. Having this capability will prevent wasted hours of troubleshooting and testing, which leads to an overall cost savings in customer networks. Autonomous messaging is available as a software upgrade in all NIC products. The NIC Plus EP is available immediately in a multitude of configurations.
