Digital Lightwave Announces 10 Gigabit Ethernet Support on NextGen Multi-Rate Module; NGMR Module Now Supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, SDH, and OTN.

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Digital Lightwave(R), Inc. (OTCBB OTCBB

See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB).
:DIGL DIGL Device Independent Graphics Layer ), a leading provider of optical networking test equipment and technology, today announced support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet on the same Next Generation Multi-Rate (NGMR) module that also provides Next Generation SONET/SDH features. This module is available on all NIC (1) (Network Interface Card) See network adapter. See also InterNIC.

(2) (New Internet Computer) An earlier Linux-based computer from The New Internet Computer Company (NICC), Palo Alto, CA.
(R) Platform products and enables single-module telecom/datacom testing.

The NGMR supports 10GigE LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  (10.3Gbps), 10GigE WAN (9.953Gbps) and 10G FEC (11.049/11.095Gbps) in addition to SONET/SDH from 51Mbps to 10Gbps, and the OTN rates of OTU-1 (2.66Gbps) and OTU-2 (10.7Gbps).

Additionally, the NGMR is designed for application in today's most advanced NextGen networks, supporting VCAT (Virtual Concatenation), LCAS LCAS Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (SDH/SONET Virtual Concatenation)

(Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme or LCAS is a method to dynamically increase or decrease the bandwidth of virtual concatenated containers. The LCAS protocol is specified in ITU-T G.7042. ), and GFP (Generic Framing Procedure Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) is defined by ITU-T G.7041. This allows mapping of variable length, higher-layer client signals over a transport network like SDH/SONET. The client signals can be protocol data unit (PDU) oriented (like IP/PPP or Ethernet Media Access Control) or can ).

"We are now able to give customers something they've never had before," says Mike Botham, Director of Engineering for Digital Lightwave. "The NGMR combines the telecom/datacom testing features that our customers use most often, into a one-board solution. That makes the NIC a more cost-effective platform than its competitors and enables customers to carry a smaller, lighter product that can still perform all their most advanced testing."

The 10GigE test options on the NGMR may be combined with the High-Density Ethernet module equipped with 10GigE to provide two 10GigE ports, four GigE optical ports, and eight 10/100/1000BaseT ports. All ports operate independently and simultaneously. This configuration provides a powerful and flexible, yet cost effective, platform for testing converged telecom/datacom networks.

The Digital Lightwave Ethernet solutions, including 10GigE on NGMR module, will be on display at Ethernet Expo, New York City New York City: see New York, city.
