(WEA) has purchased Transporter Fountain to bring unprecedented levels of speed and predictability to its backup and disaster recovery processes. WEA, Warner Music Group's manufacturing, packaging and distribution organization, will use Transporter Fountain to deliver Oracle database logs of critical transaction information from its data center in Pennsylvania to its headquarters in California.

Unprecedented speed, predictability and the ability of the system to limit data loss even after a catastrophic disaster were the attributes that persuaded WEA to choose Digital Fountain, according to Mike Streb, vice president of infrastructure for WEA. "We assumed that we had to live with making a choice between sending our log files fast or sending them reliably," said Streb. Every few minutes, WEA creates Oracle files that range up to 500 megabytes in size that get backed up from Olyphant, PA to Burbank, CA. With Transporter Fountain, WEA will be able to do more of these updates, more often, using the same amount of bandwidth currently allocated to this application.

"When we migrated our data center from Burbank to Olyphant, we had two options -- send tape and be down for a week, or use Transporter Fountain," continued Streb. "We installed a DS3 line to reduce round-trip travel time for information and reduce shipping costs, and Transporter Fountain was the only system that could make use of all the bandwidth. We shipped two terabytes of information in 48 hours with a single Transporter Fountain system, without experiencing one second of downtime.
