Formerly vice president of ALPHA servers business at Digital Equipment Corporation, Nist will oversee hardware and systems software development as well as product management and product marketing of the Tandem NonStop(R) Himalaya(R) and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (R) Server systems. She also will become a member of the senior management group.

Nist is replacing Kurt Friedrich who is leaving Tandem to pursue other interests. Prior to joining Tandem, Nist spent 22 years at Digital in a variety of business unit, product development, and engineering positions. Her main area of focus over the past 12 years has been the development of Digital's ALPHA and VAX (Virtual Address eXtension) A venerable family of 32-bit computers from HP (via Digital and Compaq) introduced in 1977 with the VAX-11/780. VAX models ranged from desktop units to mainframes all running the same VMS operating system, and VAXes could emulate PDP models  server products.
