DigiBoard Announces Communications Support for Digital Equipment Corporation's Line of High-Performance Alpha Computer Systems.


MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation and DigiBoard today announced asynchronous serial communications support for Digital's new generation of open AlphaServer systems running Microsoft's Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  V3.5 and Digital's DEC OSF/1 V3.0 operating systems. This announcement highlights Digital's strategy of partnering with industry leaders when it makes sense for the customer, the partner and Digital. "The resulting products give customers a cost-effective alternative for accessing the world's most powerful line of 64-bit computer systems."

DigiBoard's serial connectivity products are available today with Microsoft Windows NT V3.5 for Alpha platforms. DigiBoard products supporting Windows NT V3.5 include the Xem family of expandable, intelligent boards; the C/X and EPC/X cluster controller systems; and the AccelePort, an intelligent serial port board for remote access applications. These products allow for a large number of very cost-effective connections and off-load character processing from the system's central processor.

DigiBoard's ISDN solutions for digital communications on Alpha platforms over Windows NT V3.5 include the PC IMAC Apple's primary desktop computer. The iMac is an "all-in-one" that houses the computer and drives within the flat panel monitor case. Since their debut in 1998, the iMacs have been very popular. Like all Macintosh models in that time frame, the first iMacs used PowerPC chips. , a single BRI See ISDN.

 intelligent LAN adapter; the PC IMAC/1 intelligent LAN adapter with up to 4 BRI lines; and the new DataFire intelligent BRI LAN adapter with integrated NT1 interface. For X.25 connectivity requirements, DigiBoard's high-performance SyncPort/X.25 intelligent subsystem will support Windows NT V3.5 for Alpha systems by the end of 1994.

DigiBoard's serial connectivity products will be available with DEC OSF/1 V3.X drivers by January 1, 1995. Products supporting DEC OSF/1 will include the Xem family, the C/X and the EPC/X cluster controller systems; and the AccelePort.
