software to more securely integrate key infrastructure onto the company's corporate network. RealPort with Encryption is an enhanced version of Digi's patented RealPort COM (1) (Computer Output Microfilm) Creating microfilm or microfiche from the computer. A COM machine receives print-image output from the computer either online or via tape or disk and creates a film image of each page.  redirector technology which helps MICROS-Fidelio provide secure property management software service to major hotel chains worldwide.

"We've been using Digi's PortServer TS line of terminal servers featuring RealPort with Encryption software for several months now," said Kevin Doucette, manager of Opera interfaces, MICROS-Fidelio Software. "It allows us to securely transmit confidential information for our clients. As we rely on the Internet more to transfer information, the security provided by the RealPort with Encryption software becomes more important."

MICROS-Fidelio International transmits confidential information such as room status, guest names, VIP status, address information and other secure data for hotel chains worldwide. The information is managed from a centrally located data warehouse which is connected to remote serial devices such as telephone PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).  systems, voicemail systems, video service systems, point-of-sale devices and many more. The Digi PortServer TS enables these devices to communicate directly with the data center, and the RealPort with Encryption software provides a secure port in which to transmit this data. This eliminates the need for each hotel to house its own server, decreases on-site hardware and allows for better customer support.

"It is vital that we provide a secure software solution for our customers, and the Digi PortServer TS including RealPort with Encryption enhances that security," Doucette added. "It was also extremely easy to implement. No software changes were required, including any changes to the existing software configurations."

RealPort with Encryption easily allows virtually any computer application that uses COM Port or TTY (TeleTYpewriter) See teletypewriter and TDD/TTY.

"RealPort with Encryption is ideal for financial, retail, government, utilities or any application requiring increased security to protect vital information," said Larry Kraft, vice president of Americas sales and global marketing, Digi International. "Already available across a full range of Digi products from embedded modules to 16-port terminal servers, this feature makes it easy for customers to securely network-enable their serial devices."
