Digi Introduces Industry's Most Secure 802.11b Wireless Device Server; New Digi Connect Wi-SP first to feature WPA2 / 802.11i enterprise security.

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Digi International Digi International was founded in 1985 as DigiBoard and is headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA. The company went public as Digi International in 1989 and is traded on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol DGII.  (NASDAQ NASDAQ

It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  device server featuring WPA WPA: see Work Projects Administration.

2(TM) and 802.11i security that is also fully backwards-compatible with the WPA(TM) standard. The Digi Connect Wi-SP is the industry's most secure wireless device connectivity solution and is ideal for retail, warehouse, healthcare and medical applications. It enables customers to connect virtually any serial device and securely collect, track, measure, monitor and control critical device information through an organization's wireless LAN infrastructure.

"Whenever sensitive and business-critical data is involved, network security is a key requirement," said Steve Ericson, director, product management, Digi International. "Choosing a secure and standards-based wireless product allows the confident deployment of wireless technology without the potential risks or concerns previously associated with wireless. Other products only offer consumer-grade security such as WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) An IEEE standard security protocol for wireless 802.11 networks. Introduced in 1997, WEP was found to be very inadequate and was superseded by WPA, WPA2 and 802.11i.  or WPA-PSK WPA-PSK - Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key  encryption. The Digi Connect Wi-SP device server provides enterprise-class WPA2 and 802.11i compliant wireless security through advanced AES encryption for complete data privacy and secure mutual authentication services."

Built on industry-leading NetSilicon 32-bit NET+ARM technology, the Digi Connect Wi-SP wireless device server is a true plug-and-play device networking solution that combines the flexibility and productivity improvements of secure wireless networking technology with proven serial port connectivity. It provides product integration and customization flexibility such as user interface private labeling and customer-specific factory defaults and features, a compact design, input power flexibility and a fully switch-selectable RS-232/422/485 high-speed serial interface The High-Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) is a differential ECL serial interface standard developed by Cisco Systems and T3plus Networking primarily for use in WAN router connections. It is capable of speeds up to 52 Mbit/s with cables up to 50 feet in length. .

The Digi Connect Wi-SP also offers unique features such as an easy-to-use web user interface, product customization options and intelligent remote management and monitoring capabilities through the Digi Connectware(R) Manager device management software. It also provides standard network management interfaces including SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. .

"The Digi Connectware Manager platform can significantly reduce administrative maintenance costs," Ericson added. "It enables customers to diagnose and immediately address problems from a central data center thus reducing trips to remote locations for device maintenance. Digi Connectware Manager also saves time by reporting problems in the field rather than using a dedicated administrator to constantly monitor devices on the network."
