"With this partnership, Digi and Kepware are creating a new, cutting edge standard of technology for the automation market," said Joel Young, vice president of device server products for Digi International. "Combining Digi's knowledge of device server products and Kepware's expertise in OPC software will allow manufacturers to integrate their networks more reliably and cost effectively."

Digi and Kepware's embedded OPC DX server will provide interoperable data exchange and server-to-server communications across Ethernet networks. The OPC DX server is expected to establish leading edge technology in line with the industry standard in OPC DX devices by meeting all industry specifications from the OPC Foundation The OPC Foundation is an industry consortium that creates and maintains standards for open connectivity of industrial automation devices and systems. The OPC standards specify the communication of industrial process data, alarms and events, historical data and batch process data , the formation of which was announced last year.

"With the introduction of OPC DX standards, the OPC market is on the verge On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning) is a play written by Eric Overmyer. "Our convergence of technologies will allow both Digi and Kepware to lead the industrial connectivity market as Ethernet data exchange becomes the new standard for automation companies."

Digi International and Kepware Technologies pursued a product development partnership with the foresight that OPC devices must incorporate embedded and Ethernet technologies to keep up with the needs of today's manufacturing companies.

We will continue to focus on providing customers in the industrial automation industry with cost-effective and leading-edge device server solutions."

Digi and Kepware embedded OPC servers are expected to be introduced to market by 2003.
