Digi International Announces New Vice President of Engineering.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2000

Digi International(R) (Nasdaq: DGII) announced today that Joel Young will join the Company as Vice President of Engineering. Young joins Digi(TM) with over a decade of experience in data and voice communications at AT&T Business Communication Services and Transcrypt Information, a leader in the design and manufacture of information security and wireless communication products. Mr. Young will spearhead the design and development of Digi connectivity solutions with his combination of proven business leadership skills and technical expertise.

While at Transcrypt International, Mr. Young served as Vice President of Engineering and Product Development for four and a half years before his most recent role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Young was responsible for the acquisition and technology integration of E. F. Johnson Company, and the successful market launches of encryption modules (for cellular telephony, wireline telephony and land mobile radios), data security products and specialized digital radio products. Mr. Young also managed the development and implementation of Transcrypt's business plan as well as the success of initial and secondary public stock offerings.

Mr. Young's career also includes ten years in various management and engineering roles with AT&T Business Communication Services. During his years with AT&T, Young was responsible for the creation and implementation of voice processing and network database strategies, including deploying new voice processing platforms into the AT&T switched network for private network and other outbound calling services. Mr. Young was awarded one of his five patents as a member of AT&T's technical staff for his work in the development of Signaling System No. 7 protocols.

Mr. Young has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. He is on the board of directors for the Industrial Telecommunications Association (ITA) and is Vice President for the Nebraska Center for Excellence in Electronics (NCEE) working to promote the high technology industry in the state of Nebraska.
