Digging up the schoolyard.


A new Web site lets science teachers go on field trips in their own backyard. Based on the experiences of a teacher who worked with inmates at San Quentin State Prison San Quentin State Prison is located on 432 acres (1.7 km²) on Point Quentin in Marin County, California, United States, north of San Francisco. San Quentin State Prison was opened in July 1852, and is the oldest prison in California. , the site features earth-science lessons and activities such as mapping the schoolyard, identifying rocks and learning about sinkholes.
