HALF of all companies with defined benefit pensions think they will have wound up the schemes within 10 years, research shows.

But eight out of 10 trustees of defined benefit schemes, thought they would still exist in 10 years, according to according to

Just 20% of trustees thought their scheme would be wound up within a decade, with 80% thinking it would still be going in 10 years, while 52% thought their scheme would still be around in 20 years.

Companies are increasingly considering ending defined benefit schemes to get pensions liabilities off their balance sheets.

But Aon said there was a "communication gap" between trustees and companies.
