Field Artillery Association along with James Dietz, world renowned military artist, unveiled Chosin Fires June 12 at Fort Sill Fort Sill, U.S. military reservation, Comanche co., SW Okla., 4 mi (6.4 km) N of Lawton; est. 1869 by Gen. Philip Sheridan. A 95,000-acre (38,445-hectare) field artillery and missile base, it is the home of the U.S. Army Artillery and Missile Center. . Chosin Fires commemorates Army and Marine Field Artillery units in combat during Chosin Reservoir operations in Korea in November and December 1950. The public unveiling of the painting was held on June 13th at the Ft. Sill Officer's Club. It was conducted immediately after a private showing of the painting to OCS OCS - Object Compatibility Standard members at their annual reunion and was attended by Major General Michael Maples, Commanding General, Fort Sill (on right), many other members of the US Field Artillery Association and several people from the Lawton/Ft. Sill community. The intimate affair gave members an opportunity to meet and visit with Dietz as he personalized per·son·al·ize tr.v. per·son·al·ized, per·son·al·iz·ing, per·son·al·iz·es 1. To take (a general remark or characterization) in a personal manner. 2. To attribute human or personal qualities to; personify. their signed and numbered copies of the Chosin Fires print. General Maples and the Association developed the concept for this historical painting, and the artist turned the concept into a true work of art, which eventually will hang in Snow Hall.
