Vosper Thornycroft Controls (VTC) has been contracted by Turbomeca to develop the gas turbine alternator control and monitoring system for the Advanced Cycle Low power -- Gas Turbine Alternator (ACL-GTA) project, which is partially funded by Britain and France. The project is designed to deliver a gas turbine alternator in the power range of 1.8 MW which will prove to be a diesel beater for naval applications. VTC is planning to leverage the Digicon range of control techniques and algorithms to help transfer this technology to an `open systems' Cots platform that will be fully compatible with the shipwide platform management systems in use in the French, British and other navies.
