JEAN O'LEARY Jean O'Leary (March 4, 1948 - June 4, 2005), was an American gay and lesbian rights activist, politician, and former nun.

Born in Kingston, New York and raised in Ohio, O'Leary joined the Sisters of the Holy Humility convent in 1966, just out of high school, to "have an

In 1977 she organized the first White House meeting with gay leaders and in 1988 helped establish the first National Coming Out Day. O'Leary died of complications from lung cancer lung cancer, cancer that originates in the tissues of the lungs. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States in both men and women. Like other cancers, lung cancer occurs after repeated insults to the genetic material of the cell.  in the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. NEWTON "BUD" FLOUNDERS, 83, World War II veteran and retired architect from San Francisco, widely known as the nation's leading collector of gay novels, at a Phoenix hospice of a head injury from a recent fall, May 18. Flounders donated 3,000 volumes to the Green Library at Stanford University.

ISMAIL MERCHANT, 68, film producer who with his life partner, director James Ivory, made 40 films, May 25. Merchant died at a London hospital after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends. He and Ivory made such acclaimed period dramas as A Room With a View and Howards End.
