Dictaphone Enterprise Speech Recognition and Transcription Technologies Offer Educational Institutions Realistic Experience of Managing Clinical Documentation Processes

DENVER -- Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced that its Dictaphone[R] enterprise-level speech recognition solution is being implemented at the new Virtual Lab developed by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The Virtual Lab is a completely on-line environment funded by AHIMA's Foundation of Research and Education (FORE), and is designed to offer students seeking to embark on a career in health information management (HIM) real-world experience on the latest health information management technologies. Geared towards schools and colleges through North America, the Virtual Lab is part of AHIMA and FORE's efforts to promote leadership in health information management in the emerging world of electronic health records. The Virtual Lab will include a range of current technologies, including systems for electronic document management, documentation quality management, patient identification, and coding. Dictation, transcription and speech recognition applications to be featured include Nuance's Dictaphone[R] Enterprise Express[R] Voice and Text systems, in use today in thousands of hospitals and clinics to manage documentation workflow, EXSpeech[R] for transcription-based speech recognition, and Enterprise Workstation[R], which will give students exposure to the physician self-editing style of speech recognition.
