In the introduction, author Forster observes, "There was nothing ordinary about this woman. Indeed, I now wonder if there is any such thing as an ordinary life at all." Hence we begin to explore the fictional diary of 13-year-old Millicent King, growing up in pre-war London, and continuing from 1914 to 1995. She writes with the vivid clarity that comes from living in the moment and subsequently recording those events daily on the pages of the diary. Listeners are privy to events that include two world wars and the Depression era of the 1930s, as well as Millicent's loves, ambitions, struggle for independence, joys, and tragedies.

Jameson voices Millicent's moods and nuances of language in such a remarkable fashion that the listener often forgets that this is a narrative and not the voice of a close friend relating her innermost in·ner·most
