Diamond offers a 33.6 Kbps upgrade for 28.8 Kbps customers; SupraSonic, SupraFAXModem and SupraExpress modem families now transmit data even faster.


VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1996--Tuesday, Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:DIMD DIMD Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary ) announced its plans to offer 33,600 bps upgrades to those customers who purchased any 28,800 bps Diamond Supra A relational DBMS from Cincom Systems, Inc., Cincinnati, OH (www.cincom.com) that runs on IBM mainframes and VAXs. It includes a query language and a program that automates the database design process.  brand modems after March 31, 1996 for only a nominal shipping and handling charge.

Pending approval by the ITU-TSS ITU-TSS International Telecommunications Union - Telecommunications Standards Sector  of the standard for 33,600 bps data communications, this upgrade brings new levels of compatibility and versatility to the user. It delivers data speeds that range from 2,400 bps to 33,600 bps, and offers complete interoperability with all other ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  compliant 33,600 bps modems. Upgrades are expected to be available at the end of June.

"Diamond, as a market leader, designed the current product line so it can be upgraded at little or no cost to our user base."

Diamond designed the upgrade process to be as simple as possible for the consumer. If a customer's modem supports a Flash ROM, the upgrade will be as simple as running a software utility on your computer. Other models will be upgraded through a user-installable kit. Customers who have purchased Diamond Supra brand modems prior to April 1, 1996 will also have a 33,600 bps upgrade option available for a nominal fee in addition to shipping and handling.
