Diamond launches new SupraExpress 288i Sp high-speed modem with advanced telephone functionality; New fax voice modem features full-duplex speakerphone and high-speed modem communications for $189.


VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--Diamond Multimedia's Communications Division is adding a new, multifeatured faxmodem to its value SupraExpress line.

Offering data transmission speeds of up to 28,800 bps (ITU-T See ITU.

ITU-T - International Telecommunications Union
 V.34 compliant) and fax transmission speeds of up to 14,000 bps, the new SupraExpress 288i Sp faxmodem also features personal messaging and speakerphone functionality. The SupraExpress 288i Sp is a true Windows 95-certified Plug and Play internal faxmodem that is very simple to install and integrate seamlessly into a desktop computer system.

Scheduled to ship later this month, the SupraExpress 288i Sp will be offered at an estimated selling price of $189.

"With single phone-line access to voice mail, faxing, online services and the Internet, users can confidently leave their home office knowing that faxes and phone calls can be handled quickly and professionally, and they can be accessed anytime, anywhere from a touch-tone phone."

The expanded feature set of the SupraExpress 288i Sp includes a full- duplex speakerphone to provide the convenience of hands-free phone calls over a high-quality speakerphone and offer continuous sound even while both parties are talking. Echo cancellation The elimination of an echo in a two-way voice transmission. Echo is created in the telephone company's central office switch when two-wire lines from the customer are converted to four-wire lines for backbone trunks.  technology also helps to eliminate annoying feedback between the speaker and the microphone.

For sophisticated voice mail and fax capabilities, FaxTalk(TM) Messenger software automatically distinguishes between fax and voice calls, and saves fax and voice messages on your hard drive for later retrieval. The software also allows the user to record personalized greetings, either by using the speakerphone or a telephone handset.

Voice messages may be accessed and faxes may be forwarded from a remote touch-tone phone. In addition, the user may be notified of incoming messages and faxes by pager, fax or phone.

The SupraExpress 288i Sp also includes COMit data software for Windows, Global Network Navigator Global Network Navigator - (GNN) A collection of free services provided by O'Reilly & Associates.
