Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. Completes Acquisition of Spea Software AG.


SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1995--Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: DIMD) a leading developer and marketer of multimedia and communications subsystems for personal computers, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Spea Software AG (Spea).

Spea is a leading German developer and marketer of add-in 2D graphics accelerators and multimedia subsystems for the PC and is developing professional 3D graphics accelerators and other technologies.

Diamond acquired Spea, a privately-held German company headquartered near Munich, in exchange for 2,087,694 shares of Diamond common stock. As a result, Diamond will incur a one-time write-off of in-process research and development of approximately $38 million in the fourth quarter ending December 31, 1995.

Diamond Multimedia designs, manufactures and markets high-performance multimedia solutions for the PC, PowerPC and Macintosh markets. Products include Stealth graphics and multimedia accelerators, Edge 3D animation accelerators, and Supra supra (sooh-prah) Latin for "above," in legal briefs and decisions it refers to the citation of a court decision which has been previously mentioned. Thus a case when first cited will be referred to as Guinn v. United States, (1915) 238 U.
