Diadem Assumes Responsibility for Operations of Indonesian Joint Ventures.


TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 1997--Diadem Resources Ltd (ME DIR. ) announces that it has assumed responsibility for all operational aspects of the exploration and development of its Belitung Belitung (bĕlē`tŏng), island (1990 pop. 192,972), 1,866 sq mi (4,833 sq km), Indonesia, in the Java Sea midway between Sumatra and Borneo. It has valuable tin mines (government-owned), worked chiefly by Chinese labor.  Island, Indonesia Indonesia (ĭn'dənē`zhə), officially Republic of Indonesia, republic (2005 est. pop. 241,974,000), c.735,000 sq mi (1,903,650 sq km), SE Asia, in the Malay Archipelago.  properties.

Diadem's Indonesian joint venture partners on its Belitung Island properties, PT. Gunung Gunung is the Malay or Indonesian word for mountain - it is regularly used in volcano and mountain names throughout South east asia. E.g.
  • Gunung Kembar -> Mount Kembar
  • Gunung Merapi -> Mount Merapi
 Ki-Kara Mining and PT. Andriant Trading and Engineering have written to the Canadian Canadian (kənā`dēən), river, 906 mi (1,458 km) long, rising in NE New Mexico. and flowing E across N Texas and central Oklahoma into the Arkansas River in E Oklahoma.  joint venture partners requesting that Diadem diadem, in ancient times, the fillet of silk, wool, or linen tied about the head of a king, queen, or priest as a distinguishing mark. Later, it was a band of gold, which gave rise to the crown. In heraldry, the diadem is one of the arched bars that support the crown.  assume ongoing responsibility for all operational activities on these properties. Diadem and all the other joint venture partners have agreed to Diadem assuming operational responsibility on the Belitung Island properties including the Kelapa Kampit zinc-lead-silver-tin, the Tikus tin-tungsten project and the Lilangan gold project.

Diadem and its Indonesian partners are committed to the continued development of their Belitung Island projects.

Diadem is currently reviewing its participation in its Kalimantan joint ventures.
