Diablo Canyon Power Plant Returns to Full Power.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 2001

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant returned to full generation output this morning just in time to meet the state's morning electrical energy needs. The plant's two units generate enough electricity for more than two million northern and central California Central California can refer to one of several divisions or regions of the U.S state of California:

In the face of a powerful Pacific storm system yesterday, plant operators had reduced the output of the plant to 20 percent of its capacity. Both units were gradually brought back up to full power overnight, after riding through the heavy surf conditions at reduced power. Operating at reduced power in such conditions helps assure a quick return to full power in the event that the units are forced to shut down shut completely when the ocean cooling water system becomes clogged with kelp from the high seas high seas
