Diabetic driver jailed after black-out at wheel kills woman.


A DIABETIC driver who killed a woman who was walking hand-in-hand with her husband after suffering a black-out behind the wheel was jailed for 4 1/2 years yesterday.

Philip Willey, 46, was driving to his home in Penarth, South Wales, from RAF St Athan, where he worked, when he mounted a kerb and struck Julian and Suzanne Meredith, a couple in their 50s.

Mrs Meredith died of severe multiple injuries, Cardiff Crown Court Cardiff Crown Court is a historic building situated in Cardiff's Civic Centre, Cathays Park.  was told. Mr Meredith suffered leg injuries.

Willey admitted causing Mrs Meredith's death by dangerous driving In English criminal law, the offence of causing death by dangerous driving is currently defined by the Road Traffic Act 1991 but, following Adomako (1995) 1 AC 171, the offence of motor manslaughter may now be the preferred charge.  at a hearing in October.
