This is a typical Dummies book--well written for the audience (essentially lay persons or non-specialists), full of useful information, and well laid out. This particular one doesn't have as many tables and figures as others, but it is of little consequence for this topic.

There are five parts plus some useful appendices. Each part or section is divided into chapters beginning with some basic physiology physiology (fĭzēŏl`əjē), study of the normal functioning of animals and plants during life and of the activities by which life is maintained and transmitted. It is based fundamentally on the activities of protoplasm. , and then moving through managing the disease and into living with diabetes. As one who lectures on testing for diabetes throughout the year, I found this most helpful. Not only because of the clarity about the tests--glucose and the non-laboratory tests that are utilized, especially A1C--but because it will help me in my lectures. In a similar manner, it will help you discuss this with others in your family should the need arise, or those with whom you are in contact. I realize that we are not licensed to practice medicine but I know full well we are asked questions and in trying to be supportive, we answer. This book will benefit you. I am sure there are other books that deal with this topic, but finding a better one of its size and cost is unlikely.
