In reality, most of this novel is taken up with a passive-aggressive war between the titular tit·u·lar adj. 1. Relating to, having the nature of, or constituting a title. 2. a. Existing in name only; nominal: the titular head of the family. b. sisters and their 30-something Auntie, who comes from India to take care of them after their mother dies. The girls are a bit spoiled by their father and do like their nice clothes, but mostly they're models of perfect behavior so no one will suspect how much they miss their mother. They don't like Auntie taking Mum's place, so the sisters scheme to force her out. Of course, in the end, Auntie succeeds in bringing them together and helping the girls deal with their mother's death. The book never finds its emotional core, though it does a fine job of making Auntie a real person, and of keeping the girls likeable even when their behavior is bratty brat·ty adj. brat·ti·er, brat·ti·est Characteristic of or being a brat; ill-mannered. brat ti·ness n. . A sub-plot involving a classmate who is
abused by her mother's boyfriend is interesting, but resolved too
easily. Bindi Babes is passably well written and balances between
"problem novel" and total fluff--how could a middle school
