RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 2000

Invensys plc, the world leader in home automation controls, has named Jim Devlin For other persons named Jim Devlin, see Jim Devlin (disambiguation).

James Alexander Devlin (June 6, 1849 - October 10, 1883) was a baseball pitcher in the early National League of the United States.

 Rod Powell, Division Chief Executive for Invensys Control Systems, based here. In his new position, Devlin's challenge is to build a significant ongoing business in creating a "smart home" market position for Invensys.

Formerly called Network Systems, the name of Devlin's unit was changed to leverage its expertise in commercial building systems and move into the untapped multibillion-dollar global residential market. "The group's name change signifies our commitment to the residential market," Powell said. "And Jim's appointment will help us develop interconnectivity and remote access of all control points within a home."

"It's really the next frontier from a technology perspective. People already have computers, appliances and entertainment equipment in their homes," Devlin said. "It's just that nobody's got the whole thing connected yet. That's what's exciting."

Devlin joined Invensys from ICL (International Computers Ltd., London) The former name of Fujitsu Services, the European-centered arm of the global Fujitsu Group and one of the leading IT services companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  plc (a subsidiary of Fujitsu corporation) where he had more than 20 years' experience in the computer systems industry in a variety of sales, marketing and business management roles. In his previous role, Devlin served as the executive vice president of Internet ventures. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of ICL Retail Global Solutions.
