Developer has big plans for shopping center.


Perlmutter Properties Inc. of White Plains, NY has been appointed exclusive agent in the leasing of Port Plaza in Port Jervis, New York Port Jervis is an American city in Orange County, New York. The population was 8,860 at the 2000 census.

The city of Port Jervis neighbors the point where the states of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania adjoin. Port Jervis was a port on the Delaware and Hudson Canal.

The 80,000 s/f neighborhood shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  has a vacant 46,000 s/f former supermarket available. National tenants in the shopping center include Rite Aid Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) is a United States retailer and pharmacy chain, operating over 5,000 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains. , Dollar General, Burger King and Cutting Crew. In addition to these well know stores are several local merchants. A 5,000 s/f former Chinese buffet is also available, as are two more stores of approximately 2,000 s/f.

In support of the leasing program, KT Associates is planning a comprehensive redevelopment and repositioning of the shopping center, with the possibility of expanding the center by up to 140,000 s/f.

Local shoppers need more local choices. David Perlmutter of Perlmutter Properties added. "Automobile access to Port Jervis is excellent. It is at a crossroads, Routes 6 and 84 pass through, and it is the northern terminus of Route 23. Many shoppers are currently taking advantage of the road network to cross the river to Pennsylvania, or driving south to shop in New Jersey.

"I am confident that we'll be able to reverse that flow by introducing strong tenants to Port Plaza that complement and accelerate the rebirth of downtown Port Jervis. You can already see the beginning of it in the new boutiques, galleries and restaurants that have opened near the center. Port Plaza is poised to reclaim it role as the economic engine of Port Jervis, New York."
