Detroit Medical Center Wins Infrastructure Management World's 'Best Practices in Infrastructure Management' Award.

CareTech Solutions client recognized by IDG's Computerworld for strategic deployment of infrastructure management solutions

TROY, Mich., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) services provider for hospitals and healthcare systems, announced today that its client, the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), has won the "Best Practices in Infrastructure Management" award, given by Computerworld's Infrastructure Management World - the premier conference for leaders in the data center and infrastructure management sector.

The award identifies and acknowledges excellence among users of infrastructure management technology. Honorees were announced Sept. 13 during a special awards ceremony at Infrastructure Management World, being held Sept. 11-13 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A wide range of IT end-user companies and organizations responded to an initial "call for nominations," which was originally announced to multiple industry audiences, including Computerworld subscribers responsible for data center and infrastructure management. Finalists were evaluated by a panel of judges based on case study submissions that profiled the company, its IT department and infrastructure project management challenges, as well as application deployment details, summaries of the key technology used and measurable solution outcomes.

Sponsored by EMC, Infrastructure Management World's annual awards program, Best Practices in Infrastructure Management, identifies and acknowledges excellence among companies in the following areas:
-- Distributed Systems and Infrastructure Implementation/Dynamic
 Infrastructure
-- Security, Risk Management and Business Continuity/Dynamic IT
-- Data Center and Network Consolidation/Dynamic IT
 -- Managing to Improve TCO/ROI
 -- Innovation and Promise

"Managing the network infrastructure is a crucial element in any company's IT strategy. The organizations we've selected have demonstrated the ability to devise and implement solutions that ensure the most efficient IT infrastructure and advancing the larger goals of the organization," said Ron Milton, executive vice president, Computerworld.

DMC received the award for a major upgrade to its IT infrastructure, completed by its healthcare information technology service provider, CareTech Solutions. CareTech's upgrade enabled the implementation of electronic medical records. Working with Cerner Consulting Services, CareTech Solutions effectively created a "paperless" clinical environment that will operate across the DMC's multiple facilities and save the healthcare system vast amounts of time and resources.

"CareTech and Cerner have demonstrated remarkable flexibility in meeting the very aggressive timelines associated with the infrastructure upgrades," said Michael LeRoy, CIO of the Detroit Medical Center. "The project is a massive undertaking for the Detroit Medical Center and these companies' experienced personnel and best practices have been critical to reducing our timeline to seven months, for an upgrade that would normally require as much as 18 months to complete."

"CareTech Solutions is proud to have played a role in upgrading the DMC's infrastructure to meet its evolving information technology demands," said James Giordano, president and CEO of CareTech Solutions. "CareTech's work with the Detroit Medical Center demonstrates our commitment to providing hospitals with state-of-the-art, customized technology solutions to help them achieve their strategic vision, enhance the quality of patient care and lower costs."
