 about the war in Iraq ("Unnatural Disasters"). Instead of exploring what the United States can do to extricate itself honorably from Iraq, we get only complaints and condemnations. The reality is that we are there, for good or ill, and Catholics ought to deal with it. We cannot extricate ourselves from that war without further catastrophic results. We must try to establish some form of democracy in Iraq Iraq and Democracy focuses on the history of democracy in Iraq. Moreover, the article presents various opinions of Middle East Scholars and Politicians on contemporary debates about the future prospect for democracy in Iraq.  and create a police force able to give the people and government the security they need. After we have done that, we can depart in peace and leave the fate of Iraq in the hands of the Iraqi people.

You are right in saying the United States cannot win the war against the insurgency. Only the Iraqis can do that. But at least we can help them build the institutions and security forces necessary to permit them to have a viable chance. Anything less is a complete dereliction of duty Dereliction of duty is a specific offense in military law. It includes various elements centered around the avoidance of any duty which may be properly expected.
