Covent Garden Covent Garden (kŭv`ənt), area in London historically containing the city's principal fruit and garden market and the Royal Opera House. The market was established in 1671 by Charles II on the site of the abbot of Westminster's convent garden, from which the area's name is derived. in London has a new hotel. It's not in Covent Garden exactly, a mere five-minute walk away, but in fact is the old Trust House Forte building just off High Holborn Holborn: see Camden, England. in Drury Lane Drury Lane, street and district of London, at first a place of fine residences, among which was that of the Drury family. It was the site of the original Drury Lane Theatre, which was built by Thomas Killigrew in 1663 under a charter from Charles II and called the Theatre Royal. After burning down (1672), the theater was rebuilt (1674) with Christopher Wren as architect. It was again rebuilt (1791–94) and again burned down (1809).. This, the 298th Travelodge has been opened by Sir Rocco Forte who founded the concept back in 1985. Time marches on and old wars are forgotten Sir Rocco now very much in command of the up-market group which takes his name. For him to return to old memories was a notable act. The Covent Garden Travelodge has 184 bedrooms and follows the successful concept with bright modern rooms and a choice of smoking and nonsmoking accommodations. The hotel has a licensed bar cafe offering breakfast menu, snacks throughout the day and evening meals. Sir Rocco (left) is seen here with Travellodge chief executive Grant Hearn. http://www.travelodge.co.uk Jul 22, 2006
