Desktop Data announces 144 organizations testing NewsEDGE/WEB; Intranet service on track to ship by end of third quarter.

The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  delivery of real-time news and information, today announced that 144 organizations are beta testing (programming) beta testing - Testing a pre-release (potentially unreliable) version of a piece of software by making it available to selected users. This term derives from early 1960s terminology for product cycle checkpoints, first used at IBM but later standard throughout the  its NewsEDGE/WEB service.

The testing organizations include 23 of the top 50 Business Week 1000 companies. Announced just two months ago, NewsEDGE/WEB is already being tested by over a third of Desktop Data's customers. To accommodate the exceptionally strong customer interest, the Desktop Data sales force will use Internet communications to extend trial access to all customers prior to the service's commercial release, scheduled for the end of the third quarter.
