Designs moving forward for 'urban glass house'.


The Vendome Group has announced that they are moving forward with a new design for their property at 328 Spring Street, corner of Washington Street The following streets in the United States are called Washington Street:
  • Washington Street (Alexandria), in Alexandria, Virginia
  • Washington Street (Baltimore), in Baltimore, Maryland, running near Johns Hopkins Hospital
 and just north of Canal Street Canal Street may refer to:

The Vendome Group has engaged legendary architect Philip Johnson See Phillip Johnson for others with a similar name
Philip Cortelyou Johnson (July 8, 1906– January 25, 2005) was an influential American architect. With his thick, round-framed glasses, Johnson was the most recognizable figure in American architecture for decades.
, and his partner Alan Ritchie, to create the design for the new building.

"We expect the building will be an 'Urban Glass House' with its design elements drawing from signature Philip Johnson buildings including his Connecticut residence known as the 'Glass House.'

The new building while representative of Mr. Johnson's signature modern design, will contribute to a new streetscape street·scape

 and compliment the Hudson Square neighborhood.

The streetscape will also reflect the historic designs of Philip Johnson such as those for the Gardens at the Museum of Modern Art.

The new building design will also preserve the adjacent historic James Brown

"Johnson, along with his partner Alan Ritchie, are currently aggressively at work on the new design for the site. We intend to build a project that has redeeming social value for the City and the community. We will combine art, technology and architecture into a building reflecting a new standard for design, and the creativity of the legendary Philip Johnson," said Vendome.

"The new building we have designed will rise 120 feet. It will be comprised of eleven floors," said Alan Ritchie, managing partner of Philip Johnson/Alan Ritchie Architects.

"I have also directed my development team to follow Green Building guidelines to the extent feasible, and will make every effort to insure that we build the most environmentally friendly building possible. We will provide ah independent power source to insure building power in the event of power outages and in addition, a filtered air system will be engineered into the building providing residents and guests with a continuous supply of fresh air," added Vendome.
