Designers face off in construction building.


Canstruction[R] is the most unique food drive in the world, with New York City New York City: see New York, city.
New York City

City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
 architects and engineers strutting their design and construction genius to build the most spectacular structure from thousands of full cans of food.

All this talent is put to the test to make a difference in the fight against hunger. Starting at 5:00 p.m. on November 8, and continuing into the wee hours of the morning teams from 42 of the city's most prestigious firms risk their reputations as they assemble structures using little more than cans, tape, and cardboard in their attempts to defy the laws of gravity while building true works of art.

During the Awards Gala and Opening Reception, held at 6:00 p.m. November 9, six structures are declared winners, receiving awards in the categories of Jurors Favorite, Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, and Best Meal, along with two Honorable Mentions.

This year's jury includes HGTV's Design Star contestants Teman and Teran Evans; designer Doug Wilson of Trading Spaces

The price of admission is a minimum of one can of food. New York City is one of 80 cities across North America sponsoring Canstruction[R] competitions in the coming months. Together they will create more than 600 works of art and donate more than 2,000,000 million pounds of food to local food banks.
