Design firm to provide 'Capital Asset Management.' (Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. offers new services) (Property Management/Improvement; Section II)

Parsons Brinckerhoff, a 100-year old international design, planning, and facilities firm, has announced a firmwide initiative to provide Capital Asset Management (CAM) services.

These services are targeted to owners and operators in the public and private sectors, including industrial organizations, institutions and corporations.

Spearheaded by Ray Monti, senior vice president, the expanded Capital Assets Management services will be integrated with the firm's Condition Assessment Survey (CAS) services. One of PB's companies, Parsons Brinckerhoff Facilities services, and some regional offices, have been providing CAS services since 1985.

Since nationwide economic constraints have placed greater emphasis on rehabilitation and repair, rather than new construction, PB has been a leader in developing improved stateof-the art facilities assessment methods and technology. PB has greatly extended its existing capabilities, including the development of software for hand-held computers to assist in conducting accurate condition assessment surveys and financial software for the management of capital assets.

Capital Asset Management is a comprehensive approach to facilities planning, whether the facility is a corporate office building, bridge, park, military base, transit property or an entire inventory of city-owned properties. This approach begins with an engineering assessment of the condition of capital assets using a systematic, uniform, preprogrammed evaluation tool tailored to a specific facility. It includes cost estimates for the repair or replacement of deficiencies and recommended priorities for renewal, modernization and replacement proj cots. The information is maintained in a comprehensive data base which can then be used to formulate engineering and financial reports.

Capital Asset Management provides a method for owners to manage the ph cal resources of an organization effectively as it manages other princ resources -- cash assets, people information. CAM-produced engin ing and financial reports assist in swering the question, "How can I n effectively preserve and enhance value of the company's capital a portfolio?"
