 architectural/engineering firm, Haines Lundberg Waehler (HLW), has pledged a $10,000 gift to the National Academy of Sciences to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the firm's leadership role in the design of research facilities.

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) is the largest biomedical research facility administered by the U.S.
 which will be located in Forest Glen, Maryland. Other projects have included the National Institute of Standards and Technology National Institute of Standards and Technology, governmental agency within the U.S. Dept. of Commerce with the mission of "working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards" in the national interest.  in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Goddard Space Flight Center The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is a major NASA space research laboratory established on May 1, 1959 as NASA's first space flight center. GSFC employs approximately 10,000 civil servants and contractors, and is located approximately 6.5 miles northeast of Washington, D.C.  in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The gift has been earmarked for the Academy's Government-University - Industry Research Roundtable (GUIRR), which was established in 1984 as a forum in which leaders from government, universities, and industry meet periodically to discuss issues affecting the strength and vitality of the research enterprise. The Roundtable's council is chaired by Richard F. Celeste Celeste is a woman's first name. Celeste may also refer to:
