Design contract issued for $7.2b Trans-Hudson rail.New Jersey Transit, as part of its Access to the Region's Core program, has awarded a contract for preliminary design of the $7.2 billion Trans-Hudson Commuter Rail Tunnel Project to THE Partnership, a joint venture of Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), STV STV - Sapporo Television Broadcasting Co. STV - Satellite Television STV - Scottish Television STV - Seeker Test Van (mobile field system that evaluates infrared missile guidance and control units; Eglin AFB FL, USA) STV - Sega Titan Video (game system) STV - Sequential Test Vector STV - Single Track Vehicle (most motorcycles) STV - Single Transferable Vote STV - Space Transfer Vehicle STV - Sprint Telecommunications Venture (Sprint, Cox Cable, Comcast) Group and DMJM DMJM - Daniel, Mann, Johnson, & Mendenhall (architecture, engineering, and construction services firm) Harris. The project includes a new tunnel under the Palisades in New Jersey and the Hudson River to midtown Manhattan and an expanded rail station connected to the existing New York Penn Station. Concept plans call for construction of two side-by-side, single-track tunnels of 4.1 miles in length. The tunnel would supplement the existing 100-year-old Amtrak-owned Hudson River tunnel by doubling commuter rail capacity between New Jersey and New York. When completed, it will help meet demand for rail service to New York's Penn Station by expanding peak-period train capacity. As the prime consultant on the project, THE Partnership is responsible for preliminary engineering. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in 2009 with completion slated for 2016. |
