Design Analysis Associates Inc. announces ATM SONET/SDH Physical Layer Interface Module for 622.08 Mbps and 155.52 Mbps line rates.LOGAN, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1996-- Module also serves as stand-alone ATM traffic generator/checker Design Analysis Associates Inc., announces an ATM Physical Layer Interface Module for SONET/SDH transport systems. The module was designed for transporting and recovering ATM cells within an OC-12c/STM-4c transport stream and can also be configured for OC-3c/STM-1 transport. This module offers communication equipment vendors a fast, off-the-shelf solution for their ATM optical network interface. In addition to its function as an ATM physical layer interface module, a unique feature of the module is its ability to serve as a stand-alone ATM cell traffic generator and checker. An on-board FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market. allows the module to generate and check various ATM cell patterns and sequences. This feature provides a low cost alternative of generating and receiving ATM cells in a SONET/SDH transport stream for test and diagnostic purposes. The module's fiberoptic transceiver comes in the multisourced 2x9 or 1x9 package with integral duplex SC connector A fiber-optic cable connector that uses a push-pull latching mechanism similar to common audio and video cables. For bi-directional transmission, two fiber cables and two SC connectors (Dual SC) are generally used. SC is specified by the TIA as FOCIS-3. . Both LED and laser based optical transmitters are available for multimode and singlemode applications. The module is powered from a single +5V power supply. Two 100-pin connectors provide access to the SCI-PHY UTOPIA interface and miscellaneous control signals including host microprocessor interface. The module measures 3.8" x 5.0" x 0.83". ATM physical layer processing is performed in accordance with ATM Forum A membership organization founded in 1991 to promote ATM networking technology. It worked with ANSI and the ITU to set standards. Its first specification in 1992 defined the User-Network Interface (UNI). In 2004, the Forum merged with the MPLS and Frame Relay Alliance. UNI specifications and is compatible with the ATM Forum UTOPIA interface format. This interface provides a UTOPIA compliant, 52 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. , 16-bit wide data path and 4-cell deep FIFO (First In First Out) A storage method that retrieves the item stored for the longest time. Contrast with LIFO. See traffic engineering methods. FIFO - first-in first-out in both transmit and receive paths. The transmitter's timing can be driven from an on-board oscillator oscillator Mechanical or electronic device that produces a back-and-forth periodic motion. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air (master) or from the recovered receiver clock (slave). In slave mode, the transmitter can switch to master mode if the receiver goes into a Loss of Signal condition. Multiple loopback modes are selectable for diagnostic purposes. There are 10 surface mount LEDs on board to provide visual status indicators of normal and abnormal operating conditions. The on-board FPGA also allows for additions and changes to specific functions for custom applications. Prices begin at under $3,000. Contact Design Analysis Associates Inc.
