Named the Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund, Inc., the 501(c)3 organization was established in Massachusetts last week as a special design and construction industry charity focused on the long-term rebuilding needs of communities damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The fund's goal is to raise $10 million to be donated specifically for use in the planning, redesign and permitting work necessary to start the rebuilding.

In making the announcement, PSMJ chairman Frank A. Stasiowski, FAIA FAIA Florida Association of Insurance Agents
FAIA Food Additives and Ingredients Association (Kent, UK)
FAIA Fellow, American Institute of Architects (honorary position)
said: "Our thoughts and hearts are with those who have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. As we watched the destruction unfold, members of our firm decided the best use of our resources would be in the long-term rebuilding efforts. When the clean up is over, the reality remains that these people need to reestablish their lives. They'll need engineering, design, and construction help to rebuild the infrastructure. But it's more than bricks and mortar A store (shop, supermarket, department store, etc.) in the real world. Contrast with clicks and mortar. , it's instilling optimism for their future. What better way for us to help than to marshal our industry in a historic effort to rebuild what was destroyed?"

As advisors to CEOs of many top design firms around the world, PSMJ is in a unique position to unite many facets of the design and construction industries. Stasiowski and his wife Joan began the effort by appealing to leaders in the design and construction industry and by giving a personal donation of $10,000. His company PSMJ Resources, Inc. is also donating time and personnel in this effort.

Contributions to the fund are mounting very fast and donations are coming from a multitude of individuals and firms that are making real sacrifices to help such as Williams & Paddon, Architects + Planners, Inc. of Roseville, CA who have decided to forgo their annual holiday party to donate the money to the Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund.

Donations collected through the fund will be dispersed specifically to the most devastated Gulf Coast communities to start the burdensome process of applying for funding to rebuild what was lost.

The Gulf Coast Rebuilding Fund seeks the support of design and construction industry associations and the trade media by asking them to spread the word to members and readers to unite in this rebuilding effort.
