), a trusted provider of logistics solutions, today announced 40 new sign-ups on the Company's Global Logistics Services Network (GLSN). More than 25 per cent of these network sign-ups represent additional services that were sold to existing customers by leveraging a strong installed base.

Some of the sign-ups on the network included such companies as Akzo Nobel, Atlanta Logistics, Averitt Express, Avery Dennison, Blue Rhino, CF AirFreight, Commercial Carrier Corporation, Commonwealth Brands, CSI/Crown, Daystone Corporation, Flextronics, Lakeville Motor Express Inc., Scully Transportation, Street Glow Inc., and United Freight Services.

"Today's announcement demonstrates that Descartes continues to make significant headway in connecting the world's leading manufacturers, retailers, carriers and logistics providers to the GLSN," said Manuel Pietra, president and co-chief executive officer, The Descartes Systems Group Inc. "We believe this is a testament to the value of our global network and our ability to deliver services to new and existing customers that solve real logistics problems."

In 1998, The Descartes Systems Group Inc. was one of the first companies to architect logistics solutions for a network-based delivery model. Over the past three years, Descartes has built out a logistics services network that connects trading partners with varying levels of technology capabilities worldwide. An investment of over 70 million dollars (USD USD

) has enabled the rapid activation of clients regardless of their revenue size and role in the extended supply chain. Since the network's roll out, Descartes has connected over 40 per cent of the Fortune 200 and 40 per cent of the Global 100 to the GLSN.

The GLSN enables connectivity by letting trading partners communicate across geographies regardless of individual business practices or technology applications. Designed specifically to improve the efficiency of logistics processes, applications use the GLSN messaging backbone for logistics-related document movement and status including advanced shipment notices (ASN (1) (Autonomous System Number) A unique identifier of an autonomous system on the Internet. Of the 65 thousand ASNs available, more than 30 thousand have been assigned to ISPs and NSPs. ISPs usually have only one ASN, but NSPs may have more than one. ), purchase order status messages (POs), sales orders, and proof-of-delivery (PODs). Providing data transformation and unit-to-measure data semantics, the GLSN communicates with connected companies through a variety of protocols including extensible-mark-up language (XML XML
