Providers in the Internet Economy The Internet Economy refers to conducting business through markets whose infrastructure is based on the Internet and World-Wide Web. B2B - business to business
networks, Descartes released details on the growing volume of network business being generated by its 3PL partners.

"As e-marketplaces and net market makers have focused on building highly efficient, real-time trade networks, the need for highly efficient, real-time logistics networks has escalated," said Peter Schwartz, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and chairman of Descartes. "3PLs are uniquely positioned to be the constructors and managers of these networks. Descartes' initiative to ally with the leading 3PLs as another channel to expand the network is now delivering dividends."

3PLs are a key leverage point in the logistics network. A typical 3PL coordinates the activity of hundreds of carriers across all modes of transportation on a global basis and manages substantial amount of freight under contract. By offering Descartes' DeliveryNet software solutions to their customers, 3PLs are able to couple their physical logistics infrastructure with a real-time, customer-centric information infrastructure that provides optimized transportation functionality and end-to-end control and visibility of logistics activities. 3PL Partners Win Contracts with Descartes Software Descartes today announced new transaction-based network revenue-generating deals through its 3PL partners:
-- TNT Logistics North America, part of TNT Post Group -- an $8 billion global
force in express distribution, logistics and international mail - has deployed
Descartes' DeliveryNet to Hewlett-Packard Company (HP). TNT has used the
Descartes solution to create an all-North American online logistics network
with HP, spanning 48 states and extending overseas to Europe. In addition, TNT
is expected to deploy Descartes' DeliveryNet with a major North American
automotive manufacturer.

-- ProLogis -- the largest publicly held, U.S. headquartered owner and operator
of global distribution, light manufacturing and temperature-controlled
properties -- is deploying Descartes' DeliveryNet to a large European retailer.

-- KNGT -- the first non-asset-based third-party logistics provider -- has
deployed Descartes' DeliveryNet to a major U.S. paperboard manufacturer and
distributor. KNGT is using DeliveryNet to manage the inbound and outbound
movement of products from the customer's manufacturing facility to distributors
across the U.S.

-- Con-Way Integrated Services -- a CNF Transportation Inc. subsidiary that
operates a national network of regional less-than-truckload companies providing
time-definite and day-definite freight delivery services for commercial and
industrial businesses - has deployed Descartes' DeliveryNet to a major retailer
with over 450 stores in North America.

-- Exel Logistics -- one of the worlds leading providers of logistics services
with over 700 strategic locations in the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe --
has deployed Descartes' DeliveryNet to a multinational office equipment
company.

As customers expect higher levels of service from their logistics providers, it is becoming increasingly important for 3PLs to be able to deploy e-logistics services and to leverage their aggregation capability to drive efficiencies such as shipment consolidation over multiple customers. Descartes' e-logistics solutions enable 3PLs to offer breakthrough services to their customers such as end-to-end visibility of order status, while increasing transportation efficiencies by managing multiple customers over a common, open information infrastructure.

"The role of 3PLs as logistics aggregator is clearly increasing as customers look to radically improve their commerce processes," said Schwartz. "A cornerstone in our strategy to create an open, real-time global logistics network was to ally with this important leverage point in the network -- the 3PL leaders. We are gratified grat·i·fy
