Des Plaines River Flooding Potentially Disrupts Pace Service.

Road Closures, Heavy Traffic May Result in Service Delays in the Northwest Suburbs

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The floods resulting from heavy rains that affected the Chicago area throughout the weekend could continue their impacts into Monday's rush hour. Officials from the City of Des Plaines contacted Pace to notify the bus agency of potential road closures extending into Monday if floodwaters don't recede before then. Pace Executive T.J. Ross said, "We're grateful to the City of Des Plaines for keeping us notified under extremely difficult circumstances. We've been advised that conditions may change minute by minute and we'll be doing everything we can to cooperate."

Ten Pace routes serve the City of Des Plaines, and any or all of them could be affected by detours or traffic delays should road closures occur Monday. The effects could also impact service throughout the northwest suburbs if delays take place. Specific details regarding potential detours are unavailable due to the rapidly changing condition of roads and bridges in the area surrounding the Des Plaines River. Pace officials will work with information provided by the City of Des Plaines and other agencies to determine the best contingency plans as needed. "We're asking our riders to be patient in the event that service delays happen and advise that they allow plenty of extra time for travel," said Ross. "We'll be working to restore normal operations as soon as it is safe to do so."
