Derogatory term; You Say Email:letters@liverpoolecho.co.uk.I AGREE with Keith Carter, (ECHO September 8). I thought I was the only person who hates being called a Scouser. When on holiday if people from other parts of the country say "Oh you are a Scouser", I feel it is a derogatory term and makes me feel inferior. I feel the ECHO is to blame, after all you keep using the word all the time describing everybody as Scousers. Let's remember the word Scouse scouse n. 1. A lobscouse. 2. a. often Scous·er A native or resident of Liverpool, England. b. often Scouse The dialect of English spoken in Liverpool. is from Lobscouse lob·scouse n. A sailor's stew made of meat, vegetables, and hardtack. [Perhaps dialectal lob, to bubble + scouse, of unknown origin. which is a food, you would not call people from Lancashire black pudding or Eccles cakes, or people from Lincolnshire sausages so why call us after a dish of stew? Liverpudlians we are. Miss S. Markey, Dingle. |
