With the Richard Meier-designed facility up and running, what's next on Mount Olympus? How about an arranged wedding with the contemporary LA art world? While other institution might court the scene by purchasing work from local talent, the Getty s custom-ordered projects by an impressive roster of veteran, mid-career, an rapidly rising: Angelenos: John Baldssari, Uta Barth, Sharon Ellis, Judy Fiskin, Martin Kersels, John M. Miller, Ruben Ortiz-Torres; Lam Pittman, Stephen Prina, Alison Saar, and Adrian Saxe. All the commissioned offerings unveiled in this exhibition organized by guest curator Lisa Lyons) take their inspiration from work already in the museum's collection--tying a permanent knot between scene and institution.
