The ranking officer of the U.S. Navy, responsible to the secretary of the Navy and to the President.
 Adm. Vern Clark announced the following flag officer assignments:

Rear Adm. Kevin M. Quinn is being assigned as commander, Carrier Strike Group Three, Bremerton, Wash. Quinn is currently commander, Logistics Group, Western Pacific/commander, Task Force 73/commander, Task Force 712, Singapore.

Hardee is being assigned as assistant commander for Aviation Depots, Air 6.0, Naval Air Systems Command The Naval Air Systems Command, or NAVAIR, is the part of the United States Navy which provides materiel support for naval aircraft and airborne weapon systems, such as guided missiles. NAVAIR was established in 1966 as the successor to the Navy's Bureau of Naval Weapons (BuWeps).  (NAVAIRSYSCOM NAVAIRSYSCOM Naval Air Systems Command ), Patuxent River, Md. Hardee is currently air speed project officer, NAVAIRSYSCOM, Patuxent River, Md.

Rear Adm. (selectee) William E. Shannon is being assigned as assistant commander for acquisition, Air 1.0, NAVAIRSYSCOM/director, Naval Aviation Enterprise Human Capital Strategy, Patuxent River, Md. Shannon is currently deputy program executive officer, Air Anti-Submarine Warfare, Assault and Special Mission Programs, Patuxent River, Md.
