In FY 2000, DOE awarded a total of $2.8 billion of which $486.7 million was awarded in prime contracts to small businesses including $147 million to 8(a) firms; $44 million to small disadvantaged firms; and $40 million to women-owned firms. In FY 2001, the Department awarded $3.5 billion to small business of which $511.6 million was in prime contracts including $189 million to 8(a) firms, $42 million to small disadvantaged businesses, $67 million to women-owned businesses and $40 million to HUBZone firms. Of the $3 billion in subcontracts for FY 2001, $633.9 million went to small disadvantaged, $501.4 million to women-owned, $45.8 million to HUBZone, $182,077 to Service Disabled Veteran and $7.8 million to veteran-owned firms. The department is aggressively pursuing small businesses in order to increase their knowledge of and access to DOE contracting opportunities.
